All professional quality alarm systems are fitted with rechargeable batteries in order to maintain the system in the event of a power failure. In general you should fit the largest capacity battery that will fit in the Control Panel - as a general guide 2.1Ah batteries are suitable for compact control panels whereas 2.8Ah and 7.0Ah batteries will fit inside larger control panels and most blank end-stations.
Battery life is around 5 years: the battery can be tested by removing the mains power to the Control Panel - if the external sounder sounds then the battery is past its useful life (or there isnt one fitted).
